In 1992, at the age of 8, my friends and I had it all figured out what we were going to do with our lives.
Become Olympic gymnasts/swimmers/ice skaters. A triple threat sort of skill going on.
We had some big dreams going on in our little neighborhood. But that's the best part of growing up with a big imagination. Lots of awesome memories holding backyard competitions and handing out handmade construction paper medals weighed down in elmer's glue and glitter.
Um, yeah so the Olympics never came calling.
I'd say the reality of hitting way over 5 ft by the 5th grade, my definite fear of heights and the fact that I'd much rather spend my free time playing Barbie's didn't help.
I'm so excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. My family and I were able to go to the 1996 Atlanta games and the energy and excitement of the crowds has stayed with me after all these years even watching it from home. I'd love to be able to see another games some day.
In the meantime, I hear they have a speed walking event and even a trampoline competition so maybe there's still hope yet ha!

if it were only that easy
This house selling business is tough stuff y'all.
HGTV has totally deceived me making it look so easy breezy with it all wrapped up into a 30 minute segment with a bow on top and lots of happy smiley faces.
Where's the woman in the corner curled up in the fetal position convinced she will loose her mind at any moment if she has to vacuum one more time that day?
Yeah let's see that episode.
So here's we're we at.
A few offers, a contract that fell apart a week later, and yesterday a second contract that they terminated because of a change of heart at the last minute. Major bummer.
I was telling someone that the hardest part basically trying to live in a model home and then having to stay somewhat close to the house at all times to grab the dogs if we have a showing.
She was like oh I know I was a mess it's such a headache.
And then I'm like "wait didn't you sell your house in a week?" Ha!
I know God's perfect timing is behind all of this, He'll put us where we need to be when we need to be. So, I'm waiting and vacuuming.

boat pug
We headed out to the lake earlier this week. Pug managed to catch himself a cold, poor thing, so a drive normally spent enjoying some tunes on the way out was quickly replaced by pug's backup singing of goose honks every five seconds. Three of us were anxious to pile out of the car upon arrival.
A little cough syrup and some TLC from the grandparents and he's managed to make a full recovery.
While he recouped we hit the lake. We were going to put landry in his kennel for a nap when boy suggested we take him on the boat. We bought a life jacket years ago for pug, but quickly retired it when pug's spaziness (new word I just made up) became more of a safety concern then a relaxing cruise around the lake.
Landry loved it. He clung to me the whole time, but got a nap in so I'd call that a success. He wore pug's life jacket and didn't seem to mind. Do any of your pug's swim? Pug won't and we haven't even tried it with Landry.
Sorry I wish I could explain my crazy boat hair going on.
I've been helping mom redo her quest room and it's turning out really cute. We both have a habit of just jumping into projects without getting a before picture so I don't think one exists, but I'll be sure to post an after.
Here's the nightstands. Think early 90's maple and gold on the before. And a little Annie Sloan does the trick quite nice. We've been having a lot of fun with the Annie Sloan chalk paint.
Oh and part of the bedding. It's one of the paisleys from Pottery Barn. I think Landry's given his approval.
And now I'm off to break a sweat to get the mail.

sleepy & dopey
I couldn't muster up the energy to blog yesterday. I'm still getting over a broken heart from Monday night's Bachelorette, even if I did see it coming thanks to the spoiler blogs. Secretly, though, I was hoping they had it all wrong and Emily and Sean would go running into the sunset together and live happily ever after like all the other's from previous seasons.
If she chooses skinny jeans over race car my head might explode.
Anyway, back to real life with it's real problems and such. A few weeks ago I sort of noticed pug having a hard time seeing things. He's 7 and the thought of him loosing his sight is just so heartbreaking. He'd jump on Landry not seeing him and bark at stuff in the dark if he was confused. I was thinking cataracts so I called the vet to set up an appointment for this Monday to see what we could do.
Monday rolls around and our sweet vet is trying to get a good look and wants to do some kind of tear test and of course pug is having none of this. Big shock there. The vet asks if we'd mind coming back tomorrow and giving him some sedation before we come back and try it again.
This should be interesting.
It said it takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the sedation to kick in, well we found out it takes like 2 minutes when we gave it to pug and he tried to jump on the ottoman and missed. So we headed to the vet. They were able to do the test and thankfully it's not cataracts, just some scarring. Apparently, this is pretty common with this breed and age. Unfortunately, we can't undo the damage, but some drops everyday will help keep it from getting worse.
Pug was having a hard time just embracing the happy place he was in. He kept trying to walk around which made for a very entertaining vet's office as he wobbled around and bumped into stuff. Bless his heart. The lady in reception asked the nurse if that was the same pug they were talking about that had to be held down to look in his eyes on Monday.
Yep, the one and only.
So, we loaded our sweet pug up and headed home where we spent the rest of the evening trying to keep him from rolling off the sofa, carrying him around to his water bowl and even holding his leg up while he tt'd.
That's some true pug love there.
If you've dealt with eye issues on your pug or dog, and have some tips I'd totally appreciate it. Thanks!

some friday randomness
1. I took a nap yesterday. Sorry for rubbing that in. It's been forever since I just took a nap during the day and let me tell you it was awesome. Why are toddlers fighting the awesomeness of a nap?
2. I deposited a check at the drive thru ATM and for the first time noticed a sign that said "if you are visually impaired press this button for audio instructions". At first I was like "oh that's nice" then I'm like wait, "why are you driving"?
3. The 4th being on a Wednesday this year has totally messed me up. I have no clue what day it is anymore.
4. I think I suffer from sweaty eyelids. Is this a thing? I love Bobbi Brown's waterproof eyeliner in a jar, but the foreverness it takes to put it on was killing me and some of the pencil eyeliners lasted a good two minutes before they disappeared. So after much trial and error with the waterproof pencils I think I have finally found my lifesaver for the summer and my eyelid problem...Sephora's retractable waterproof. This stuff will last you through watching "My Life" and maybe even "Simon Birch". I'm tearing up just thinking about those two movies.
5. Big Brother. Next Week. Enough said!
Have a great weekend y'all!

bed pugs
Somehow I ended up sharing a pillow with my pug.
Yes, it really is as awkward as it sounds.
I blame boy.
Pug has never wanted anything to do with sleeping on our bed. He can't handle not having boundaries and personal space and the ability to sit down for JUST FIVE MINUTES. So, he resides in his sleeping quarters, aka the laundry room, with not one bed but two. The two bed incident happened when we tried to give an older bed of his to our first foster pug and pug would hear of no such thing. He took it upon himself to repeatedly drag the old bed out of the foster's kennel and back to his room. Seeing this was a battle not in my favor I gave up bought a 3rd bed and to this day pug makes sure to have the two beds stacked on top of each other optimizing his comfort.
Kind of like the princess and the pea. But with a pug.
When Landry came along we set up the 3rd bed next to our bed and he happily slept their each night. Until about a two weeks into having him and I go to bed after everyone else to find Landry curled up under the covers on my side of the bed.
And that's when he got a taste of the good life.
He was just so cute about it and would burrow underneath the covers and curl up into a ball that when the time came neither one of us wanted to be the bad guy and make him sleep on the floor. So that's how I ended up with a pug in my bed even though I swore I up and down that I never would.
He comes in handy in the winter being your own personal heating pad, it's just a bit annoying when he jacks your pillow in the middle of the night.
