happy turkey day!

Thanksgiving completely snuck up on me this year with the move and add in the fact that it's been in the high 70's this week and everyone's walking around in shorts, well it just didn't seem possible we're ready to prepare a turkey feast already.  Our family has so much to be thankful for this year, with boy's health earlier this year to the house, that I could sit here all day and write a sappy list.  But I'll spare y'all.  Instead I'll share some of the forgotten "thanks" on my list to kick off the holiday!

1.  I'm thankful for not breaking anything when I tripped on some stairs in a home under construction.  That's what you get for snooping in a spec when the sun is going down.  Also, thankful no one saw me but boy.

2.  I'm thankful boy offered to take pug to the ranch overnight to hunt earlier this week.  Yes, please!  I'll back his bag.  Landry and I were able to enjoy the peace and quiet catching up on some Bravo recordings.

3.  I'm thankful for our neighbor that helped me chase down both escapee pug's and then carry one home for me.  Bless his heart.

4. I'm thankful for cable.  Although, I need to add in I am not thankful that our new provider, Att&t U-verse, doesn't carry the Hallmark channel.  What's up with that?  Do they not realize I live for Hallmark Christmas movies starring forgotten 80's child star actors and Golden Girl reruns?

5.  I'm thankful that I have no idea if Christmas cards will get sent this year or that I haven't even made a dent in my Christmas shopping.  Actually it's I'm thankful that it's not keeping this type A girl up at night more than anything.  Ask me in 3 weeks, might be a whole other ballgame.

Happy Thanksgiving sweet friends!!

a pouting pug

Pug's in desperate need of a xanax and with all his wimpering so am I.  I was really nervous about moving pug from his home.  He's not a fan of change and as his eyesight has worsened his anxiety level has risen because he has a hard time seeing things in front of him.  Bless his heart, this pug mama is trying it all.  I think it may just take time.  Anyone have any experience with having a pet having a hard time with a move?  I don't have the heart to tell him we get to do this again in a few more months.

We had my parents take the pug's before the movers came, but pug was on us sensing something was up.  Then we didn't bring them to the rental until it was all set up.  Landry was a champ at the move.  He was phased for all of two minutes before he spotted his blanket on the sofa and then curled up and went to sleep.  All the while pug began his whimpering and pacing.  He loves being at my parents so I hope that helps.  In the meantime he's too ticked to even pose for me.  Goodness he is a drama pug!

On a totally random note has anyone had any problems with their iPhone camera freezing up when you try and take a picture?  I know very off topic, but someone could save me a call to apple.

a big weekend

I should add to that title...and exhaustive too.  Well friends, we made it to the finish line of house selling 101 on Friday and officially closed.  Although I'm thrilled to be done with all the showings and mess of selling, it was a lot harder to say goodbye and hand over the keys than we prepared ourselves for.   Lots of ugly tears leaving that home and our neighbors.

But, now we're moving forward.  We'll start the building of our new house this month and in the meantime we have rented a little place super close to my parents.  It's a little like Everybody Loves Raymond, but without the brother.  So far we are loving it!  I can't even begin to tell you what a huge blessing this is to have them so close, especially for the holidays!   So, Friday afternoon after closing the movers came and we loaded everything up and headed to the new place.  We're so grateful for our parents because in theory moving always looks so easy and then you start and it's the worst mess ever.  We spent the weekend unpacking and trying to make this place feel like home.  Last month I had this scribbled on my chalkboard and the next day we we're under contract so I do believe it's a perfect reminder!

The internet and cable man just left and so I'm extra excited because I have a lot of tv and blog catching up to do while I unpack.  I did hit my big goal for Monday and that was to get rid of all the boxes in the kitchen.  It's a lot more fun unpacking than packing!

book shopping

Time to talk books.

Truth be told there's not much to my list this month.  I feel like the only thing I've been reading for the last few weeks is my sharpie handwriting on moving boxes.  But a few weeks ago, I was at Half Price books and saw "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls and picked it up because I remembered it being popular a few years back.  Let me say this book cost me a good few hours of sleep because I stayed up way into the wee hours reading.  I could not put it down.  Absolutely inspiring read and beautifully written.  It's going on my favorite of 2012 list.

I also had ordered "Unglued" by Lysa TerKeurst which I can't even begin to say what appropriate timing this book came into place for me with the move.  But move or no move definitely a must read as well.  Also, a fast read too if your looking for something short and sweet.

I meant to add to my book shopping list last month the book by Sloane Crosley "I was Told There'd Be Cake" that I had read.  This book had me from the title.  Very funny and witty read.  I need to pick up her other sometime.

Well that sums it up for me.  What have you been reading lately?  I'm needing some inspiration for what to pick up next so do share.
