28

We're coming off our 2 week high of birthday celebrations.  Boy turned 30 on the 13th and I turned 28 on the 20th.

It's convenient...your chances of forgetting the others birthday is pretty slim.

Once the first part of May rolled around I honestly started stressing about the whole 28 thing.  Then I went to the dentist and the hygienist asked if I needed a note for school.

Oh, God Bless her.

Although, I might need to be concerned about her eye sight though the next time she's digging around my mouth.

Anyway, boy asked what I wanted to do for my birthday and my response.

Nothing!!

I wanted to go to church Saturday evening and then lay around all day on Sunday catching up on our tivo'd shows and finding a new series to watch on DVD (we picked "Breaking Bad" jury is still out on this one)

Then my parent's stopped by and we all went out to my favorite Greek restaurant because I needed a good pita and hummus fix to jump into being 28.  And we followed it up with cake.

Actually cupcakes in cones.  I think I've requested this dessert for my birthday since the age of 4.  I love them and this year's were extra special because boy made them.  It was so sweet.  After a quick lesson on working a mixer he did a fabulous job and they turned out delicious.

Then followed it up with some drama from the Housewives of New Jersey and finally getting around to reading this book and I was one happy birthday girl!

I couldn't ask for more!

it's his party and i'll cry if i want to

Well boy turned the big 3-0 this weekend.

Not willingly I might add, but I think he's coming to terms with it.

I mentioned in a earlier blog post that I wasn't sure what to do to celebrate, so finally I got my act together and decided to throw a small get together with some family and friends.  I wanted it to be just laid back and stress free so I rented out a pavilion at a park for the evening and had mexican food catered to celebrate.  Can't get anymore stress free then not having to clean your home or cook.

And can you guess the theme?

Fiesta.

I know...where the creativity comes from we'll never know.  I just rode that mexican catering train.  And it turned out to be a brilliant idea because the party was the week after cinco de mayo...so I had mucho inspiration while shopping for decorations.

I kept wavering back and forth on should I go ahead and surprise him or let him know.  I ended up telling him because I knew me loading up a pinata in the car would be a dead giveaway.

Friday morning turned out pretty dreary and I started thinking we should move it to a restaurant, but then the clouds parted and the sun came out and it looked just perfect.  Fantastic now I can start panicking on hanging the millions of tissue pom poms I spent 2 episodes of Real Housewives and a 16 & Pregnant making.  The hanging of the fiesta pom poms turned out to be quite a hurdle when we found out my vision of how they should look with the different lengths and groupings of colors is very different from those actually hanging them.  This is what they sort of looked like.

And did I mention we took the pugs?

Yes we did.

This did not bode well with Pug escaping from his harness 4 times while tied to a picnic bench and Landry escaping twice. The last one leading to him running through a field and to a horse stable to bark at the horses.  So guess who all ended up enjoying the party from the comfort of their cages in the back of the car?

And just as everyone started to arrive so did a thunderstorm and some wind that took down each and every pom pom.  We stood under the pavilion greeting guests holding down the table decorations and food.  After chasing a dog through a field in 5 inch wedges I could have cried.

Thankfully the wind cut us a break and we were able to enjoy the food and all the guests.  I'm kicking myself because amongst all the chaos my camera never made it out my car, probably a good thing with the rain, but I'm bummed to not have a single picture except for of the favors that I took once we got home.  We can always remember the churros I guess.

Despite the chaos it turned out to be a blast and as we loaded up the car to head home boy couldn't stop talking about what a great time he had.

Then he hit a bump in the road and the remains of a fruit platter flew up into the car scattering grapes and strawberries all over the interior.

And then I did cry.

i might actually like grocery shopping now

i am ever so excited that next month a trader joe's opens here in fort worth!

i am pumped.

and that's saying a lot from the girl that shudders when she thinks of her next grocery store trip.  i think it's the boring mundane routine of pushing a cart up and down the same aisles every week!

i need change people!

so it will be nice to spice it up every now and then and head to trader joe's and i'm all about the organic so this will be perfect.

i've only been to ones when i've been out of state and i'm always hearing people rave about it.

i'd love to know if you're a trader joe's regular, what are your absolute favorite foods that we must try!  and hey while we're at it feel free to add in the ones we should pass on too!

home is where the dog hair is

i'm in a full on a battle with the pug hair that is everywhere in my house!!

and i am majorly losing.

holy dyson vacuum batman!

what is up with all the shedding?

i'm convinced that while they just lay on the sofa sleeping all day they're secretly mass producing more hair just to drive me up a tree.

if i wasn't so tired of sweeping hair up i'd be pulling out my own hair.

do you think the humane society would frown upon vacuuming a pug??

i have not and will not, but the thought has crossed my mind.
