from the trenches of new mommyhood

Greetings from the trenches of new mommyhood where I allow myself a pat on the back if we can make it through the day without getting peed on during a diaper change, manage to put on deodorant and a dog didn't eat a disposable breast pad from the trash.  Then we celebrate.

I am absolutely loving every minute of motherhood and soaking it all up.  This kind of explains the lack of blogging and pictures.  Last week we also had a scare when we had to put Declan back in the hospital because his bilirubin was so high.  My poor sweet little man is such a trooper.  Having to just sit there and watch him under the lights and not get to cuddle with my sweet boy was torture for boy and I.  Thankfully, it was just one long night with me probably crying more than he did and we were home.

Daddy stealing some cuddles during feeding breaks from the lights.

So that's were we are almost 2 weeks in.  I'm hoping to sit down and blog his birth story while it's still fresh in the next few days.  Until then I'm off to find a shower and a nap.

declan's nursery

Declan's nursery is finally finished and I just love how it turned out. His room has definitely received all the attention since we moved in back in March.  I've been dreaming of this nursery for oh so long!  The jumping off point for the room really comes from the custom art piece I had Tiffini from The House of Belonging create.  I had her use one of my favorite quotes that I thought would be so perfect for his room.  She did an amazing job...I burst into tears when it arrived it's so perfect!  I'm so grateful to my mom and boy's aunt for their talented sewing skills and all the work they did putting up with me and my visions.  My mom made the pleated crib skirt and his adorable chevron quilt, which has his monogram on the reverse side.  Boy's aunt made the charcoal gray linen bumper, with a monogram too, and it turned out precious!  Lots of love went into each detail of his nursery.

Now we just need sweet baby Declan to complete the room!

{37 weeks}

we snapped a few maternity pictures and sure enough these two can't miss a photo op!

How far along?  37 weeks!
Weight gain: i quit looking.
Maternity Clothes? oh yeah.  i'm going to miss the elastic world of maternity pants
Stretch marks?  a few...very worth it though.
Sleep?  not so much.
Best moment of the week? seeing baby declan on the sonogram this week.  also finding out he flipped and is no longer breech.  praise the lord! all that yoga really paid off.
Food cravings?  still chick-fil-a
Symptoms? contractions at night and the feeling that my hips are just going to fall off my body.
Gender?  baby boy named declan!
What I'm looking forward to? we found out at monday's appointment that i am 1 cm dilated and 90% effaced and the doctor thinks it's unlikely he'll make it to the 31st (my original due date).  so we are on major baby alert.  after that appointment i've upped my nesting to full on crazy mode rushing around getting last minute stuff ready.  can't believe it's right around the corner.

nursery is finally done so check back tomorrow...i'll be giving a little tour!

five on friday

Hope y'all had a wonderful 4th of July.  By the way, do holidays that fall mid week throw anyone else off?  It so doesn't feel like Friday, Saturday maybe, but not Friday.  Gets me everytime ha!  So I'm showing up a little fashionably late to the Five on Friday Linky party.

1.  With nesting mode in full swing I busted out some craftiness and decided to spruce up one of the many plain white newborn kimono tees I have for Declan.  Love these tees and think we will get tons of use out of them the first few months.  I'm also loving the look of handstitched embroidery so I decided to give it a go.  Super easy not to mention cheap with thread being like .30 each.  It might need a matching hat now.

 2.  This being our first 4th out of suburban living we've learned that people go full out on the fireworks.  The pugs were quite frazzled by the end of the evening.

3. Just finished "Revenge Wears Prada" the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada".  Really fun read, it was also really hard not to envision Meryl Streep the entire time I read it or Anne Hathaway ha!  Perfect pool read for the summer.

4.  Normally, I do all my reads in one post, but I've only gotten around to one other and that was "The Kitchen House" by Kathleen Grissom.  A must read...really enjoyed it.  Any recommendations on what to read next...looks like I have a few weeks left with my feet up.

5.  Y'all know I love me some Big Brother.  One week in and I'm hooked.  Any favorites to win
yet?

{35 weeks}

"enough with the selfies...get us some food woman"

How far along?  35 weeks headed into 36 today!
Weight gain: i quit looking.
Maternity Clothes?  yep pretty much living off gap/old navy maternity tanks
Stretch marks?  a few...very worth it though.
Sleep?  what's that?  up at least every hour.
Best moment of the week?  we've headed to weekly appointments now which is so crazy how fast this last month has come.
Food cravings?  still chick-fil-a sandwich or nuggets if i'm feeling adventurous
Symptoms?  my sinuses have had me beat all week stealing any energy i can muster up.  lots of braxton hicks, but not consistent enough.  i'm also convinced everyday that i might be in labor, so it's going to be a long month for boy!
Gender?  baby boy named declan!
What I'm looking forward to? being in major countdown mode...can't wait to meet dec!  so hoping i can finish up his nursery this week...waiting on a few things to arrive.  also we have a sonogram first part of next week so i'm anxious to see if we have any movement on the breech front (fingers crossed he's flipped).
Also, this came today and freaked hubs out (funniest thing ever)!

Anyone have any experience using the snot sucker?  Everyone has told me it's the best and a must have.  It just looks like I might be doing this solo with boy hiding in the other room.
